About Rowvela
What is Rowvela?
Rowvela is a web app that imports data from REST and GraphQL APIs, CSV, JSON and XML into Airtable. Before every write it shows a row-by-row preview of new, changed and deleted records, and every run can be reverted afterwards.
Do I need to write code?
No. You paste an API URL or a cURL command, pick the list of records in the response, map fields to Airtable columns and review the preview. Formulas and JMESPath are there when you need them, not before.
Is Rowvela an Airtable extension?
No. Rowvela is a separate web app that connects to Airtable with a personal access token or Airtable OAuth. It can still be started from Airtable: through a button field, an automation calling a webhook, or a trigger when records change.
Can I use Rowvela today?
Rowvela is in a free, closed pilot. Request access and tell us what you want to import; we enable accounts one by one.
Importing data
How do I import data from an API into Airtable?
In Rowvela, create an import, paste the API URL (or a cURL command), add credentials, and inspect the response. Choose the list that holds the records, map fields to Airtable columns, set a match key and review the preview. Apply it once, or put it on a schedule. Details.
Can Rowvela update existing Airtable records instead of creating duplicates?
Yes. Upsert matches incoming rows to existing records on one to three key fields you choose, updates only the fields that changed and creates the rest. Duplicate or empty keys block the write, so records are never matched by position. Details.
Can I import nested JSON into Airtable?
Yes. Map any nested path to a field, expand lists into separate rows (several levels deep), join lists into one cell, or reshape the response with JMESPath first. Details.
Which pagination types are supported?
Page number, offset, cursor, next-page URL and RFC 8288 Link headers, for GET and POST requests and GraphQL. Rowvela suggests the right one from the first response and stops only when the source proves there is no more data.
How large can a table or import be?
Up to 100,000 records per table and per run by default, configurable up to 500,000. Each API response can be up to 5 MB, with up to 500 pages per run. Uploaded files can be up to 250 MB during the pilot.
Can Rowvela write linked records and attachments?
Yes. Linked records are matched by a field in the linked table and can be created when missing. Attachments are written from public file URLs, which Airtable downloads when the preview is applied.
Can I import data from one Airtable base into another?
Yes. Use an existing Airtable connection as the source, choose a table or a view, and map it like any API. Details.
Safety
What happens if an import writes the wrong data?
Revert the run. Rowvela restores the previous values of fields that still hold what the run wrote, removes records it created and recreates records it deleted. Anything edited since is left alone and listed. Details.
Can Rowvela delete records that are no longer in the source?
Yes, if you turn it on. Deletions appear in the preview, never happen when the source returns no rows, and above a threshold need confirmation; scheduled runs are held for review instead.
What stops a scheduled import from overwriting everything?
The review guard. If a run would change more than 25% of existing records, or the source returns more than 30% fewer rows than last time, the run waits for approval and the owner gets an email. Thresholds are adjustable.
How are my Airtable tokens and API keys stored?
Encrypted with AES-256-GCM, never returned to the browser or included in exports, and bound to the source host they were entered for. Security.
Automation and enrichment
How often can an import run?
As often as every 5 minutes, or hourly, daily, on chosen weekdays and at a time in your time zone. Imports can also run from a webhook, an Airtable button or when records change.
Can I enrich existing Airtable records with an API?
Yes. "Run for each record" calls an API once per record in a view, using its values, and writes the answer back to the same record. Use it for AI fields, OCR, company data, screenshots and more. Details.
Can I run imports in a fixed order?
Yes, with sequences: for example customers before the invoices that link to them. A sequence can run manually, on a schedule, from a webhook or from an Airtable change.
Pilot and pricing
How much does Rowvela cost?
The pilot is free. Paid plans follow after it, with a free tier, and count only rows that Rowvela writes (new, changed or deleted). Unchanged rows are never counted.
Which integrations are available in the pilot?
All core features are available. Ready-made templates are enabled per workspace on request and marked Beta; ready-made Google, Meta, Zoho and Xero OAuth connections follow after the pilot. Integrations.
Can I move my Data Fetcher requests to Rowvela?
Yes. Rowvela converts a Data Fetcher JSON export into an import and lists anything that could not be carried over. How to import a configuration.
